Is Psoriasis Permanently Curable

Psoriasis Treatment

Psoriasis is a skin illness caused by the immune system acting against one’s body that produces itching, redness, red scaly areas, inflammation, and rashes.

Skin cells multiply 10 times quicker than normal in this disease, and they are most likely to occur on the elbows, knees, hands, feet, scalp, and face. As per doctors at Kayakalp Global, this disease is not communicable; contacting someone with psoriasis will not cause you to develop the disease.

This is a frequent and chronic skin disorder. People often ask- is psoriasis permanently cured? Currently, there is no cure. However, many psoriasis drugs and psoriasis assured treatment might help you manage your symptoms.

Psoriasis Treatment

Psoriasis treatment tries to slow the growth of skin cells and eliminate scales. Creams, ointments, light therapy, and oral or injectable medicines are typical psoriasis treatment options.

The therapies you use and suggested by Kayakalp Global are determined by the severity of your psoriasis and how responsive it has been to previous treatment and self-care methods. Before you find a psoriasis treatment that works for you, you may need to try multiple medicines or a combination of treatments. Even after successful treatment, the condition frequently returns.

Topical Therapy

Corticosteroids. Most frequently, corticosteroids are prescribed as a psoriasis treatment option for mild to moderate psoriasis. Oils, ointments, creams, lotions, gels, foams, sprays, and shampoos are all available. Mild corticosteroid ointments are typically used to treat sensitive areas such as the face or skin folds, along with addressing extensive patches. During flares, topical corticosteroids may be administered once daily, and on alternate days or weekends during remission.

Vitamin D substitutes. Skin cell proliferation is slowed by synthetic versions of vitamin D, such as calcipotriene (Dovonex, Sorilux) and calcitriol (Vectical). This medication can be used alone or in conjunction with topical corticosteroids. Topical corticosteroids are frequently less expensive than calcipotriene and calcitriol.

Retinoids. Typically available as a gel or cream, Tazarotene is applied once or twice daily. The most common side effects include increased light sensitivity and skin irritability.

Salicylic acid. Products with Salicylic acid help alleviate the scaling of scalp psoriasis. These are generally available in both strengths, nonprescription or prescription. This type of product may be used alone or in conjunction with other therapies since it allows the scalp to absorb the medication better.

Tar from coal. Coal tar is known for diminishing scaling, irritation, and inflammation. It comes in both nonprescription and prescription strengths. It is available in a variety of forms, including shampoo, cream, and oil. These products may cause skin irritation. They are also unsightly, stain clothing and bedding, and have a strong odor. Coal tar psoriasis treatment is not advised if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Anthralin. Anthralin is a tar cream that suppresses the proliferation of skin cells. It can help eliminate scales and smooth the skin. It isn’t to be applied on the face or genitals. Anthralin can irritate the skin and stains everything. It is normally administered for a brief period of time and then wiped away.

Light Therapy

Light therapy, either alone or in combination with pharmaceuticals, is a first-line of psoriasis treatment option for moderate to severe psoriasis. It entails exposing the skin to varying degrees of natural or artificial light. Treatments must be repeated. Consult a doctor at Kayakalp Global about whether home phototherapy is a possibility for you.

Sunlight. Heliotherapy (brief daily exposure to sunlight) may help with psoriasis. Before starting a sunlight program, consult with your doctor about the healthiest approach to using natural light for psoriasis assured treatment.

UVB narrow band. UVB narrowband light therapy may be more successful than UVB wideband light therapy. It has largely supplanted broadband therapy in many regions. It is usually given 1-2 times a week until the skin recovers, then frequently is reduced for maintenance therapy. However, narrowband UVB phototherapy may have more severe adverse effects than UVB broadband phototherapy.

Psoralen in combination with ultraviolet A (PUVA). Before exposing the afflicted area to UVA rays, a light-sensitizing drug (psoralen) is taken. UVA radiation penetrates the skin deeper than UVB light, and psoralen makes the skin more sensitive to UVA exposure.

Laser excimer. A powerful UVB light is used for targeting only the afflicted area in this type of light treatment for psoriasis. Due to the stronger UVB radiation used in excimer laser therapy, lesser sessions are needed than regular phototherapy. Inflammation and blistering may occur as side effects.

Medication Administered Orally or Intravenously

If you have moderate to severe psoriasis and other therapies have failed, your doctor may prescribe oral or injectable (systemic) medications as a part of psoriasis assured treatment. Because of the potential for significant adverse effects, several of these medications are only administered for short periods of time and may be alternated with other psoriasis treatments.

Steroids. If you have a few & scanty psoriasis spots which persist, the doctor might suggest directly injecting triamcinolone into the psoriasis spots.

Retinoids. Acitretin and other retinoids are medications that are used to decrease the creation of skin cells. Dry skin and muscle aches are possible side effects. These medications are not advised if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to become pregnant.

Biologics. These medications, which are typically provided by injection, modify the immune system in such a way that the disease cycle is disrupted and symptoms and signs of disease improve within weeks. Several of these medications have been approved for psoriasis treatment option of moderate to severe psoriasis in patients who have not responded to first-line therapy.

Methotrexate. Methotrexate (Trexall), which is usually given once a week as a single oral dose, reduces skin cell formation and inhibits inflammation. It is not as effective as adalimumab or infliximab.

Alternative Medicine

According to certain studies, alternative therapies (integrative medicine) – goods and practices not included in mainstream medical care or developed outside of orthodox Western practice — alleviate psoriasis symptoms. People with psoriasis may employ alternative remedies such as specific diets, vitamins, acupuncture, and herbal products applied to the skin. None of these techniques is supported by good evidence, although they are generally safe and may help persons with mild to moderate psoriasis reduce itching and scaling.

Cream with aloe extract. Aloe extract cream, derived from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, may help to reduce scaling, irritation, and inflammation. To see any change in your skin, you may need to use the cream multiple times each day for a month or more.

Fish oil supplements. Oral fish oil therapy combined with UVB radiation may help to lessen the severity of the rash. An improvement may be seen in scaling the afflicted area covered with a dressing for six hours a day for four weeks after applying fish oil.

The Oregon grape. When Oregon grape, commonly known as barberry, is applied to the skin, it has been shown to diminish the severity of psoriasis.

If you’re thinking about using alternative medicine to treat your psoriasis, talk to your doctor at Kayakalp Global about the benefits and drawbacks of various treatments.

Takeaway

You and your doctor will decide on a psoriasis assured treatment plan based on your needs as well as the type and severity of your psoriasis. You’ll probably begin with the most gentle therapies, such as topical lotions and ultraviolet light therapy (phototherapy). If your condition does not improve, you may progress to more aggressive therapies.
